Who Can Apply

  • Canadian citizens
  • Strong interest in Chinese studies
  • Eligible fields: language, literature, linguistics, history, arts, journalism, politics, IR, sociology, business, economics, law, geography, education, communications, public administration, environmental studies, architecture, public/global health
  • Available to study/research in China during 2026-2027
  • Strong academic/professional record
  • Language proficiency (English, French, Chinese). HSK 3 undergrad, HSK 4 grad if in Chinese

Applicant Type & Duration

  • Student (non-degree): Canadian EED enrollment, courses in China for development/language – 4–12 months
  • Student (degree-seeking, grad): Bachelor’s/Master’s from Canadian EED, grad study/research in China – 12–24 months
  • Faculty/Researcher: Full-time faculty/researcher/postdoc – 1–12 months
  • Mid-career Professional: 3+ yrs in gov/media/cultural/education org, managerial/policy role – 1–12 months

Scholarship Value

  • Chinese Government Scholarship: Tuition, monthly stipend (2,500–3,500 CNY), housing or allowance, medical insurance
  • Global Affairs Canada: Round-trip airfare Canada ⇄ China
  • Govt employees eligible for scholarship but not travel funding

Terms & Conditions

  • Valid Sep 2026 – Aug 2027 (short-term) or up to 2 yrs for grad programs
  • Academic year: Sep – mid-Jul, winter break ~3 weeks
  • Must enroll at host institution, return to Canada, focus on studies/research/language
  • Canadian passport & X1/X2 visa required, with medical insurance
  • Paid work in China prohibited
  • Non-deferrable, non-renewable, not taxable
